The Importance of Practice: Use it or Lose it

December 22, 2010 by Farnoosh Brock

Yoga Practice Pincha Mayurasana

“A genius! For 37 years I’ve practiced fourteen hours a day, and now they call me a genius!” —Pablo Sarasate (Spanish violinist)

Give Practice some Glory

Practice deserves a lot more glory around here, frankly. It is far too often the unpopular accompaniment to success and stardom. It is the unworthy servant next to Gods of fame and fortune. Practice hardly makes cocktail conversation, much less a serious topic of every day discussion and attention.

Today, I am going to put practice up on a pedestal, shower it with glory and worship it all over again. Today, I am choosing to remember the importance of practice and the essence of true growth and improvement. [Read more…] about The Importance of Practice: Use it or Lose it

The Five Pillars of Health

September 3, 2010 by Farnoosh Brock

Health CollageHealth is on my mind lately. Lately has been going on strong for about 3 years now.

In August, I finished yet another challenge: The Wellness Challenge from the beloved Sync Studio for exercising (at least an hour for me!) every single day. Twenty seven fantastic spinning classes and a dozen yoga sessions later, I am already ready for another challenge. Never before have I felt stronger, healthier, leaner, and happier in body, mind and heart! This month of rejuvenation and vitality gave me the impetus for our third podcast! A Step toward Change: Mastering our Reactions

August 31, 2010 by Farnoosh Brock

Meditation Breakthrough

My first reaction is not my best one when confronted with unforeseen circumstances – even at my own doing – but to my delight, my second reaction seems to be improving dramatically over time!

On a beautiful Saturday morning in August, my first reaction when I promptly locked myself out of my house was paranoia. I had no car keys to go anywhere and no house keys to get back in. I ran down the street to my best friend’s house to see if she was home. I knocked hard on her door several times. After all, this was an emergency (or so I thought at that moment)! No one home. I called and left text messages in hopes of finding her while at the same time, telling my husband, who had just driven 20 miles across town, in too many hurried words that this accident is partially his fault (I reasoned it out, don’t ask)!

End of First Reaction. [Read more…] about A Step toward Change: Mastering our Reactions

Yoga Practice to Tapping into Internal Energy

August 20, 2010 by Farnoosh Brock

Can you imagine the relief and happiness of the muscles if you take a break from tapping at that keyboard and tap into your energy and find balance in your body if only a few minutes. It does not even have to be yoga. You can call it a stretch, Martial arts or any name you please so long as you take good care of that body.

14 Yoga Etiquette Tips: Respect your Fellow Yoginis

June 22, 2010 by Farnoosh Brock

Observing Yoga Etiquette

Etiquette is an accepted social behavior in a particular setting; it defines the proprieties of conduct as established in any class or community or occasion. Etiquette is not a loud and explicit rule; it is soft and subtle and yet always carries you further when you observe appropriate etiquette in the right setting. Master the etiquette of the occasion and you will immediately draw favorable attention of the crowd. Yoga, which everyone can do, is no exception. A tradition as ancient and beautiful as yoga comes with a certain level of implied etiquette and it is the sincere hope of any devoted yoga practitioner to see all his or her fellow yoginis observe the same unwritten proprieties.
