Power Tips for When Travel Plans go Awry

November 23, 2010 by Farnoosh Brock

Trevi Fountains Rome Italy

Being in control was my way of asserting power over my life or at least I thought so until I realized the illusion of being in control of your life. You may control your temper, your attitude, or your eating habits but you do not control circumstances and situations at large or the poor strokes of luck that show up unannounced and unwelcome. You can, however, plan to meet them with patience, preparation and presence of mind.

Do not be caught ill prepared when things go awry during your travels.

The Amazon Kindle: Expand Beyond the Printed Word

July 22, 2010 by Farnoosh Brock

The love of learning, the sequestered nooks,
And all the sweet serenity of books.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The Amazon Kindle

How much does your reading experience of books change if your reading medium changes? This I needed to know when I first agreed to read books on my Kindle. Are “the sweet serenity of books” found in its pages or on in its words – or would Longfellow tell us they are inseparable?

I admit I love technology to bits and pieces and honestly cannot imagine my life without it for any extended period. I am a huge advocate of embracing technology in our lives and truly feel that those who reject it are simply denying themselves an ocean of possibilities to live a fuller experience of their own life. My Top 10 Pillars of Blogging Excellence: Part 2

June 28, 2010 by Farnoosh Brock

The best part of this blogging mystique is the flow of conversation and thoughts among readers on the blog. The pleasure you afford the writer by sharing your thoughts or spreading the word on a good article is immense. It matters very little if there is complete agreement or a bit of challenge or a few questions in these responses. To me, it matters only that I can make my own website and be able to share something worthwhile and someone has found value in it. In Part 1 of this post, I shared 5 of my top 10 pillars of blogging excellence and you, my dear readers, added dozens of ideas and thoughts to enrich the original 5! A heart-felt thank you!

Now that formalities, however sincere, are out of the way, let’s get on with the next 5. [Read more…] about My Top 10 Pillars of Blogging Excellence: Part 2

My Top 10 Pillars of Blogging Excellence: Part 1

June 25, 2010 by Farnoosh Brock

Content is king (or queen if you will permit me the variation), no questions asked. The personal (in your eyes) and perceived (in the eyes of others) success in the blogging world belongs with those who can clearly articulate their thoughts, connect with the heart and mind of their readers and consistently write authentic content even on non-original commonplace topics. It is your writing voice that carries you through and through!

With that slap of truth out of the way, I admit I have been itching to write about blogging beyond the writing. I want to write this post my best discoveries in this world of changing and evolving technologies. I want to share only the top tools, platforms and applications which I use to create and maintain Prolific Living. I call them my indispensable pillars of blogging excellence and I must share the genius of these pillars with you. [Read more…] about My Top 10 Pillars of Blogging Excellence: Part 1

Reading Alice in Wonderland on the iPhone

May 21, 2010 by Farnoosh Brock

Have you moved to the world of electronic books yet?

I had been trying in vain. I even bought a Kindle; I have yet to really use it. The thing is, traditional books are a pain to give up. I am addicted to turning the pages, feeling the text, holding the book, marking my place, writing in the margin, and seeing a visual progress from start to finish. As if that is not enough for a permanently happy relationship, I like the absence of technology in a book. These sweet elements add pleasure to my reading experience. A shift into the electronic world, even for an avid consumer of technology such as myself, almost feels like a betrayal to the true essence of books.

Even so, something happened last week quite unexpectedly to change my view point: out of pure curiosity, I installed the Stanza App on my best friend in this world – my genius iPhone! The Stanza App people tell us: [Read more…] about Reading Alice in Wonderland on the iPhone
