How to Get to Know Yourself in 5 Fool-Proof Steps

August 13, 2014 by Farnoosh Brock

Knowing yourself

Living a lie comes out sooner or later.

The day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. ~Anais Nin

When I read this quote first, I felt something tighten in my heart.

I was still at my corporate job in a past life, living in total conflict with my core values, and still denying the reality of the situation. It took a simple phrase to snap me out of my coma and help me see how I had created my own agony: By denying who I am.

And for what? So I could go on being someone else to impress people I don’t care about for reasons that don’t matter? It isn’t worth living a lie and being untrue to who you are, no matter how crazy, how eccentric, how uncommon, how different you may be.

You are who you are. The earlier in life you accept this and get on with it, the easier and sweeter you shall live out your days.

Let’s start embracing it instead of hiding it under the covers.

As for me, when the lie became so blatantly obvious, I accepted who I am, quit my cushy job, started my online business, created my dream lifestyle and have never looked back.

A secret I didn’t even know: You won’t miss the lie you are living, because living true to yourself is the real paradise.

This kickstarted the beginning of a self-discovery journey that I share with you here: How to get to know yourself and how to have the courage to live life as exactly who you were meant to be, being true to your core values, and coming to peace with it all.

How well do you know yourself? Ready to find out?

First, I invite you to answer these 29 questions to discover the real you.

Reminder: You can still grab The Positive Affirmations for Life program with more than 4 hours of audio affirmations for 7 life situations that impact your happiness and success the most.

Embrace Changes of Season with 9 Promises

November 11, 2010 by Farnoosh Brock

Winter in Paris

Living your whole life in cold or hot climates does NOT necessarily make you immune to those extreme temperatures!

Seriously, how many times have you heard:
“Well, you should be used to the cold, you live in [insert cold city!]!”
“Oh but you ought to be able to handle the humidity, living in [insert humid place] and all!”

No, people! We are not robots! We are still human beings, facing every winter, every summer, every fall and every spring as if for the first time, and we react as we would every time to a splash of cold water on our face or a dip in a hot bath! Blogworld Series: The Splendor of Community

October 22, 2010 by Farnoosh Brock

Darren Rowse, Kaizen Vision, Prolific Living

I did not imagine Blogworld Expo would have this profound effect on me. I was entirely too unprepared for it!

This gathering made this powerful yet virtual community come alive in ways that surpassed the best of my expectations. I am simply dumbfounded from it all! I put faces to names (and Twitter IDs!), voices and gestures to still photos of my friends and peers and fellow bloggers, and in the span of just under 4 days, I watched us form new bonds and reaffirm existing relationships and develop a stronger, tighter and truer sense of belonging to our beautiful community.

It is easy to root for your community of choice, I know – I have watched people do it all my life, yet I have never understood it. I have never been a part of a community which knows no bounds in helping others succeed and no shame in admitting that it does not know all the answers and no limit in its desire to learn, to grow, and to indefinitely pursue the best version of itself yet.

Bloggers understand that success is not a zero-sum game [Read more…] about Blogworld Series: The Splendor of Community

10 Smart Questions to Ask before Choosing your Next Language

August 10, 2010 by Farnoosh Brock

Lost in Japan Kanji Signs
Learning is exhilarating. Learning is rewarding. Learning is the best path to discovering who we are. We do not realize this until much later in life and often when we are conveniently out of school and have placed ourselves inconveniently in a rat race for survival but thanks to Google and technology, we can learn anywhere, anytime and on any subject under the sun to our heart’s content.

Learning is at the foundation of cultivating zen habits and discovering our best self in the process. We learn, we change. We learn, we grow. We learn, we realize our mistakes. We learn, we appreciate. We learn, we can teach others. We learn, we do things better. We learn, we open to new experiences. We learn and only then do we live fully.

And we don’t learn, we age. We don’t learn, we slow down. We don’t learn, we fester. We don’t learn, we forget. We don’t learn, we lose excitement for life. We don’t learn, we lose purpose for living. So never, ever let the wheels of learning stop from turning.

Speaking of learning [Read more…] about 10 Smart Questions to Ask before Choosing your Next Language
