Two hours ago, I was in a small jam-packed London theater, joining in on a much-deserved standing ovation to the cast of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Some of the finest Shakespearean actors, most notably Ralph Fiennes, indulged us tonight with an unforgettably moving performance.

Pleasure, sadness, delight and joy, smiles and tears, deep reflection and thrilling sensations, these are only some of the emotions that come alive as you bask in the awe of a fine actor bringing to life a character from a 400-year old play. So it is December again, another year bidding us a swift goodbye when we are just starting to like the sound of it. Ready or not, like it or not, in the cold of the night (except for you lucky souls on an island or in the southern hemisphere), we switch over to a new year. Anticipating TIFF in Toronto Streets

Do you learn more about yourself from watching films or is it just me?
How can the same film produce such vastly different reactions from each of us?

I wonder why TIFF09 did not nearly have this effect on me. I discovered a great deal about myself during this second round of Toronto’s Film Festival, TIFF10.

I found that a very bad film – in my assessment of course – awakens some of my worst moods with questions around the plot – or a complete lack thereof. I realize that a director may very well be as pleased with negative viewer reactions as with positive ones, for an artist aims to awaken the heart and soul enough to receive any reaction other than complete indifference but alas, why do I experience the moods and at times an utter disgust which is hard to shake?

The Soundtrack of Your Life: Living with Music

A conversation in my mind and happily, without any consequence to reality – but can you imagine a world void of the sound of music?

So fortunate we are to be born to this age where music is so abundantly accessible to us. Music, the discovery and the gift we would not know what to do without, continues to fill our lives in ways we hardly notice. Music can change a mood and set the stage for everything. It can fill empty space with rays of happiness and sorrow, love and hope, excitement and nostalgia. It can pump us up and calm us down. It can ignite our fire of creativity, productivity, and self-improvement all in one song. It can revive forgotten memories and make us believe in impossible dreams.
