You might have noticed that I love yoga.
In fact, it is one of the few passions which I aspire to infuse into everyone because I truly believe that every human body can benefit enormously from yoga. You can certainly do additional great work on that body but infuse it with yoga. Yoga and yoga alone is the universal language of loving your body through the years. There is a magic about yoga which preserves your youth by preserving everything from the health of your spine to the capacity of your lungs, from the strength of your core to the stillness of your mind. Yoga is the timeless and flawless answer to pure health and vitality.
2012 UPDATE: My greatest meditation discovery that I now do with my yoga is a program I love and trust: ReAwakening (my affiliate link). As you may know, I have a hard time meditating and staying still. The soothing voice of Angela and the calming music are great but MOST OF ALL, ReAwakening goes through a powerful system with the story telling that guides you into a meditative zone where you go deep into a heavenly zen state. 3 Pillars to your yoga practice: Strength, Flexibility, and Balance.
Building blocks means you start from the ground up. It does not imply that you need to be strong or flexible or have perfect balance. If I had a penny for every time I heard, “But I cannot do yoga because I am not flexible.” That is the ideal reason to do yoga. You open up the body and find space you did not know existed between your muscles. You discover a sense of balance which initially blows you away. You watch flexibility unfold layer after layer and you get closer to the glorious core one practice at a time.
Alas, we can at most inspire others to dab into the passions we ourselves find fulfilling.
With inspiration at the forefront and a new excitement about boundaries I am breaking with the yoga practice at my back, I created a quick video focusing on the theme of Arm Balances, where you balance the weight of your body on your arms, either your forearms or just your hands. Arm balances demand so much at first – strength of the arms and shoulders, followed by a seriously strong core (belly strength) and flexibility of hips for most of lower body positions – and get oh so much easier with time and practice.
