8 Morning Affirmations You Should Say Before Getting Up

Affirmations work wonders. They calm your body, release stress and give you large doses of confidence and happiness. Especially positive affirmations first thing in the morning!

First, a quick definition for affirmations because I had no idea what they were not too long ago:

Affirmations are positive thoughts and affirmative beliefs. They are in the first person present tense – me, myself and I – and you say repeat over and over to yourself. You can whisper them. You can say them loud. You can write them and read them. You can think them.

Where do you get these affirmations? You can create your own, depending on the circumstances you want to apply the affirmation for.

You can create affirmations for any situation. For instance, check out these 50 affirmations for women to help you deal with aging and your body.

Today, I have listed the most happiness-inducing and loving 8 affirmations that you should say every morning before you get out of bed. You can memorize them, you can read them from the blog here or write them down.

The reason you want to do this before you start your day is because your mind is just waking up, and it is about to set the tone of your day.

What you do those first 5-10 minutes can determine your mood, your energy and your happiness the rest of the morning, and even the whole day.

Affirmations start your day on the right foot. They give you the tools to handle things with ease and gentleness because you have already affirmed that you are ready for them. Your mind is poised for success and happiness and your body will follow your mind and together, you can face any kind of day.

So after you open your eyes to greet the new day, don’t jump out of bed. Lay still for 2 minutes. Breathe and wake your nasal passages and your vocal chords gently. Lay flat on your back and whisper these affirmations to yourself. Repeat each one 3 times.

8 Affirmations to Say Every Morning before Getting Up

1. I am feeling healthy and strong today.

2. I have all that I need to make this a great day of my life.

3. I have all the information I need to solve any challenges that come up today.

4. I have the knowledge to make smart decisions for myself today.

5. I make the right choices all day using my inner wisdom.

6. I am happy and content with my life.

7. I am patient and calm and greet the day with ease.

8. I am filled with gratitude and kindness for another day on this earth.

The 8-Day Morning Affirmation Challenge

Meditation_BaliThe power of affirmations will blow your mind away. Affirmations, when done right, can bring peace and quiet and clarity to the most stressed mind and the most anxious heart. Don’t ask me how I know ;)!

But you have to first let go of your self-limiting beliefs first, my dear, to embrace affirmations and to enjoy the results. That’s asking for more than a half-attempt.

So before we go on, repeat this with me:

“I am willing to give affirmation a heart-felt sincere try. I am willing to be surprised and inspired by the power of my own words.”

I used to be a complete skeptic until I read Louise Hay’s book, “You Can Heal Your Life” and she was so gentle, so kind, and yet so persuasive that I started to play with them.

I would say a quiet affirmation here and there, and at first, I did not notice anything. Then I felt – I actually felt – getting happier with each positive affirmation.

I felt the weight of stress get lighter. I felt better for saying the affirmations, so I kept doing them.

I want to encourage you to say these affirmations every morning.

The key is to building this as a habit and make it totally natural and part of your routine. And as you know, it takes a few days to build a habit.

It’s super easy. Truly peace-inducing. And it takes 90 seconds – yes, I timed this by saying each affirmation 3 times – and if it can change the course of your day and make you happy and help you make good choices and great decisions, are you up for the challenge?

For 8 days, wake up every morning and repeat all 8 affirmations. You can repeat each one 3 times and move on to the next affirmation or you can say all 8 once and then repeat that process 3 times.

Oh and one more thing: Smile as you do it.

    I love affirmations! I’ve been using them daily for almost 30 years. Like you, I started with the work of Louise Hay. She’s amazing (and still going strong in her 80′s). There’s no better way to get your life on a positive track and align yourself with your own power and possibility.     I also love Louise’s approach to affirmations. Her affirmations are believable and heart felt. It’s not like, “I am rich and happy.” Although, not a bad affirmation, it really causes you to stretch and splatter.

    Her gentle, I love and approve of myself, healed so much for me.

I have been on an anti-anxiety medication for the last 6 months [nothing has changed; only exercise and meditation is helping, plus daily visits to your blog]. Recently, I stopped taking the medication because I don’t wish to be dependent on drugs. Natural living and healing is a better option. I am trying your meditation methods, and hope that I don’t have to take those meds again. Already, I feel less tired, more motivated, and less anxious. More power to you!

        I wasn’t able to repeat the affirmations you recommended each morning because I tend to wake up while it is still dark, and I don’t like to turn on the light to wake others up, so I make up my own. We went on vacation during this time, so I’m sure that helped as well, however I’ve been having some wonderful, gratitude-filled days.

    Affirmations are the core to a beautiful day! I keep experiencing this and it has made such a huge difference in my life! I find a very similar correlation with my husband. If I always think about how amazing he is, focus on the positive things and praise him for them – my husband is so perfect in my eyes! (And we all know nobody’s perfect!) same with life – when you focus on the good that you do have, it will give you a better, positive perspective on life as well as attract the positive outcomes! I would like to share with all the readers here that I was able to overcome a malignant tumour problem more with an affirmative approach to life than just the medication part…it was a 90:10 ratio for me.     Just completed Day 3. I got out of bed and did the affirmations on the sofa after taking meds and Advil because the cold’s worsened my RA flare and getting up and moving was necessary. Still, repeating these statements puts a new spin on the pain. I know that in a few weeks I’ll see my old rheumie doctor again after a year now that I’ve wonderful new health insurance. He and his lovely staff will begin the process of getting me into remission again. And I’m being proactive–meditation, yoga, rebounding, oil pulling, and waterpuring starting soon–in lifting my mood and using the pain as motivation to eat and treat my body better than ever. One of my favorite philosophers, Montaigne, had a positive outlook on pain: “With pain, how would we appreciate the lack of it?” Indeed. Peace to you this morning.

    Day 5. “I am patient and calm and greet the day with ease.” It’s been hard to “greet the day with ease” waking up in pain. But I stretch gently, say my morning greetings to my cats (and plants; sounds silly but they’ve names and they clean the air and are family, too), give each one attention, put on layers (it’s cold!) and make my way out to the living room and kitchen. These rituals take my mind off the pain and do help me ease into the day. I’m doing the “forgiving” affirmations daily, too. Women, especially, have a hard time saying positive things about themselves, and letting go of guilt when we forgive others so easily. I do, at least. Peace.

    What a wonderful experiment! I plan on diving into this completely! I put the affirmations in my Google calendar each day for the next 8 days, starting today. My calendar is attached to my phone, so I’ll get reminders to do this early in the morning before my brain gets filled with too many busy thoughts. I am going to do my best to stay open to all the possibilities this brings.     I am a junior in college getting ready for the new semester to start. I decided to start with bedtime affirmations and I slept soundly instead of waking up every other anxious for the new day.     So I’ve done these for more than 8 days and wow! The increased awareness has led to more steps, which in turn helps me feel like I am making progress. I have turned some of these into active incantations (following Tony Robbins’ advice),,and that makes them ever more powerful. I have learned that LOA is very much at play, as I have manifested situations into my life through purposeful thinking and ‘dreaming’…what I have finally figured out (thanks largely to the last few days of doing this affirmations) is that everything I ever ‘wanted’ was connected to a deeper desire to relieve stress and strain. I wanted more money to relieve financial strain, more love to relieve emotional strain,,etc….Well,,thankfully it has dawned on me that I am the ONLY being that can relieve my own strain. I cause it,,I can relieve it!

    What a relief! I really mean it. The strain is gone and will not come back because there is no room for that energy (which takes up a lot of emotional space for me).

    It has been replaced with love, and confidence, and the knowledge that I KNOW how to offset it and relieve it if I ever feel it again.

    I love this site! I found it while searching for positive affirmations and this has all I need from morning til night. I just finished and intensive outpatient program because my depression and anxiety had gotten so out of control I
    couldn’t even be at work. The program was wonderful; I learned many coping skills which I use along with things that I have found for myself. I think I’ve been using these affirmations for at least four or five days and can definitely feel a positive change within myself! My thoughts are overwhelmingly positive and at the very least they are neutral or not negative. I have passed the site I wanted to friends who I think could benefit as well. Thank you for putting yourself out there to help other people because you helped me make a huge change in my life!!
