On Making Decisions with Intuition
I have made the best decisions of my life fully embracing my intuition … and the worst ones when I ignored that little tiny voice inside.
Intuition is a gift that each of us possess, and like all gifts – all abilities, all talents – some go to waste and others rise to great heights and sweet achievements. The choice is yours, and that is good news because the power lies within you.
Intuition is for real and whether you believe it or not does not change the fact that it exists. Let us explore the amazing depth and power to our intuition with the help of my friend and author, Angela Artemis and her book which I read this summer, “The Intuition Principle” (this is not an affiliate link – I adore and worship Amazon, that’s a fact, but I can’t stand the tax debate that brought down Amazon Affiliates in my state. Just sayin’!).
I used to think that only some of us are gifted with intuition and that it is a sign of weakness to make decisions based on how one feels. Then I got older and realized, as usual, how foolish I was yet again! Tell me, when is the last time you made a decision that did not FEEL right in your heart of hearts and it turned out to be a grand choice?
Intuition may not seem all that important to you if you trouble yourself with cultural pressures, the popularity contests in high school and college (even years later), the images from media and the advertising world, and the other nonsense that pulls us away from true harmony with the self at the expense of so much suffering later. And just to clarify, I happen to love feeling included and important by others and I enjoy the world of luxury especially flying first class on Asian Airlines – too good for words and Expert Flyer (this one is an affiliate link for a killer service that will tell you how to get yourself booked on FIRST!) and I absolutely and positively will not step out of my house without at least some mascara and lipstick!
BUT when it comes to making decisions about what to do with the rest of your life, with your career, with your relationships, the societal and familial pressures that seep into our subconscious are irrelevant. It is our intuition alone that can play the pivotal role. Turn to your intuition in these times, turn inward and ask yourself what feels right. I turn to my internal compass to tell me if each decision feels right, and that subtle change has led me into the greatest choices of my life since I started to consciously apply it. Can you start to do the same?
The worst decisions of my life used up zero units of intuition, driven mainly by pressure to be successful and seek approval, you know, the “rational” choices! It was chasing the buck, fighting for the next promotion, and getting caught up in the corporate culture and rat race hell. Every now and then, common sense would appeal to me, and I would shut off these noises long enough to hear my inner voice which screamed, “Leave, this corporate world behind. This is insanity. This is wrong. This is not real living. This is not worth it…..”, and time and again, I would ignore my own plea for help and continue in the same misguided path. At least now, I have turned those mistakes into real career tips for you!
The three greatest decisions of my life are entirely based on my intuition: Marrying my husband, leaving my corporate career when I did and opting out of the procreation process, ya know, the baby thing. A lot of heart, a lot of gut, a lot of “this feels right” went into those decisions. I did not seek approval or permission from my parents when I made those choices. I did not care how it would “look” to the outside world one second. Each of those decisions came under scrutiny, pressure, and question, but one day I realized that I am the only person who knows what is best for me, especially at my age. So I dusted off the layers of guilt, I pushed aside the heavy weight of doubt, and I stepped fully into embracing my own path. How did you come to one of the best decisions of your life?
On The Intuition Principle, The Book

I loved Angela’s The Intuition Principle. The book is practical, friendly and useful. It is a testament to Angela’s depth of knowledge on this topic, and it balances inspiration with guided steps to help you develop your own intuition in your day-to-day life. She tells us what is intuition first. Then she shows us how to use our intuition, and the benefits of using it, and also how to guard it so others don’t mock your new abilities or impact the essence of your decisions with the wrong influence.
Best of all, Angela makes intuition accessible to you. It is not just reserved for a few special people. She gives you a step-by-step guide on how to enable it in your life.
I asked Angela 3 questions that are of deep interest to me, in regards to career, dreams and meditation. May they be helpful and relevant to you as well:
1. Angela, I work with people in the corporate world who find themselves in “midlife career crisis”, for lack of a better world. They don’t know what to do next, yet they know they don’t belong where they are. They are frustrated and unhappy. How can they use their intuition to help them out of this situation?
Farnoosh, when we are at a cross-road in our lives often, there is a lot of internal strife around the situation. We want answers and to know that solid ground exists for us in the future. “Not knowing” makes us tense and this can block our intuition. In order for our intuition to guide us we need to relax and let ourselves daydream about the life we dream of having. Daydreaming relaxes us and that is the environment intuition thrives in.
Ask your intuitive mind to guide you to next step in your life. I highly suggest that you develop a meditation practice too, for it is the straightest path for hearing this guidance. Be patient and repeat this request in meditation daily. By reinforcing this request daily you will absolutely be led to the new direction you are to take in life. Should a “hunch” arise to call someone you haven’t spoken to or you feel “pulled” to go somewhere for no apparent reason – do it. This is how your intuitive mind arranges those marvelous coincidences that lead you to new “door-opening” opportunities.
2. Angela, I have always been really in tuned to my dreams, and I really enjoyed the section on dreams and how to record and remember them even better. Do you believe dreams foretell the future (I have had proof that they do at times) or are they more of a reflection of our present situation? And what’s your advice for those of us who dream stressful and unhappy dreams?
Dreams can and do foretell the future. It’s happened to me many times. Most often our dreams reflect our current life situation. If we direct them to, dreams will give us intuitive guidance as to how to solve our problems.
Dreams are a barometer of the state of your physical, mental and emotional life. If you are experiencing stressful and unhappy dreams you need to start directing your dreams to provide intuitive insight as to how to alleviate all that stress. You are probably struggling with issues and facing problems in life in order for it to be showing up so regularly in your dreams. Follow the method I’ve outlined in the book for how to request solutions via your dreams. Once you address the source of stress in your life your “bad dreams” should go away too.
3. Angela, what is the power of meditation in developing our intuition? I know that you advocate meditation and in fact, have a great product on it, ReAwakening (which I have used and love and openly endorse). Can we still develop our intuition to practical and useful levels without daily meditation?
The power of meditation is that it teaches you to quiet the mind. When your mind is not crammed full of one thought after another you will hear your intuition. Intuitive thoughts are quiet and soft and easily drowned out by constant mind chatter. The ReAwakening Guided Meditation (my affiliate link) program is a fast and easy way to develop the habit of daily meditation.
You can develop your intuition without daily meditation but, it might be “hit or miss.” Sitting quietly and “listening” attentively for your inner wisdom helps you develop the ability to ask and receive answers when you can best hear them. Anytime you ask for intuitive guidance – you will get it whether you are meditating or not the questions is: Will you hear it if you are busy, stressed and running ragged each day? In the beginning it’s best to develop a practice of quieting the mind. Later, after you’ve grown accustomed to identifying this “voice” you’ll easily hear it no matter what you are doing.
Now over to you, my Intuitive Reader. As you may know from my post about On Writing, Stephen King refers to you as the Constant Reader. Whichever title you prefer is fine so long as you share, share away your thoughts on this thing called intuition!

Dear Farnoosh,
Thank you for featuring me on Prolific Living. I truly appreciate your support in helping me to get my message out about the importance of relying on your intuition to create a life of meaning and purpose.
All my best to you dear friend,
Angela
Angela, the Queen of Intuition, you are most welcome!!!
Hi Farnoosh,
I also found Angela’s book filled with insights and wisdom. So much of it was new to me. Absolutely no fluff or filler in her book. I loved On Writing and read it when it first came out. I think it’s time for a reread!
Tess, I remember reading your thoughts on the book too. No fluff at all, that’s really the Angela style. That’s probably why we love her so!
Hello Angela and Farnoosh,
I’ve read so many excellent interviews with Angela now, but this is decidedly one of the best. Farnoosh, I love how you point out the way our decisions are often determined by our need for external validation, whereas intuition is a far more congruent approach. Your questions were very unique yet practical.
Angela, I really appreciate your advice on using intuition to make a transition from corporate life. I also was intrigued by what you said about dreams and how we can use them. You clearly have a very intelligent and well grounded approach to intuition.
Hi dear Sandra,
!
Seriously?? Thank you so much. I asked selfish questions, as you can see, Sandra, stuff I wanted to know more than anything
Angela is wonderful and if you don’t have a copy of her book, I am happy to mail mine over to you, Sandra. Just say the word.
I really enjoyed the insights here Farnoosh and Angela and as Sandra said, what you said about our decisions often being linked to external validation. This is definitely something I have noticed as I have taken steps to be more authentic in my choices and to listen to my intuition, rather than what is maybe expected of me.
I have found my intuition and trust in my feelings really strengthening but also found making choices that feel right rather than based on external validation has led to some fall out for me.
Dear Jen, thank you so much. That external validation is a killjoy, is it not?
Every time I read about examples like how intuition really helps people, such as yours right now Jen, it makes me feel so much better about trusting that inner voice. Thank you for stopping over!
Amazing Farnoosh,
I absolutely LOVED this post! I am a huge believer of intuition and am making it a conscious decision to follow mine each and every day. My entire life I have had a strong connection with my intuition, although there have been times when I didn’t always listen to it. Even as a small child, I would get “feelings” about people when I met them, whether a situation will something good & that I’ll enjoy or will be disappointing (even sometimes harmful), and about places. I’ve always been a very sensitive person. Each and every time I haven’t listened to my intuition, the situation or choice has turned out badly. Especially in relationships with guys… Recently (within the last several months), my intuition has guided me to many amazing things. Every time I found someone’s blog online, I would almost instantly get a feeling letting me know if they were someone I should pay attention to and get to know (you, Leslie, Melody, Angela, Jacob, Jodi Chapman, & more) or if I should take my attention somewhere else because I didn’t get that feeling of “connection” with that person or what they were writing about. For each person that my intuition whispered to me to get to know more, I have found amazing connections with and have found nothing but absolute happiness & great feelings of positivity. I have also listened to my intuition when it comes to the books I choose to buy & read, and the same with the products I choose to invest in (& I purchased the Re-Awakening program too…and I absolutely LOVE it!).
It’s amazing just how many wonderful people, experiences, opportunities, and places you can find when you follow your intuition’s invaluable guidance.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful post with all of us, Farnoosh! It’s great to know another intuition believer!
P.S
And I also have Angela’s amazing book, The Intuition Principle. I purchased it the same day I found her website because I got a really strong, positive feeling from my intuition on it & I was absolutely drawn to it. Couldn’t ignore that…and I’m grateful that I didn’t.
Dear Sweet Cassandra, I hope Angela is reading these lovely thoughts on intuition. You are extremely in-tune with yourself, Cassandra, and you will make some great decisions following your own heart and inner voice. I found it to be so much harder to do that when I was younger – so much more outside influence and less confidence in what I believed/wanted, but seeing how you are tackling this, I must say I am inspired. And very proud of you. Keep it up, and glad that you love ReAwakening. I need to do one of those meditation practices with Angela soon again. I took a break but time to get back into it.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts as always, Cassandra.
Dearest Farnoosh,
Thank you so much for your comment!
I can definitely say that I am much more in-tune with myself now. Growing up, especially through elementary & high school, it was a lot harder. I took so much of what others said about me or that I should do and allowed it to influence how I felt about myself and the things I did. I can look back now & know honestly that it was because I had such a lack of self-worth, & because of that I did many injustices to myself. Now I’m so much better about seeing my self-worth and have much more confidence in trusting my intuition, which makes it so much easier for me to follow what it guides me to. It’s definitely been (and still is) a journey…
And thank you Farnoosh, it feels amazing to hear that you are proud! You are one of my biggest role models, so it means a lot coming from you!
Yes, the Re-Awakening was another amazing intuitive nudge!
I have missed a few days of the 10-day start of it, but every chance I have to just sit down, put my headphones in, & listen, I do my meditation with her. Her voice is so calming & such an amazing help to me with focusing my mind and ignoring all the noise that’s going on in there…(lol)
She makes it very easy for me, even though I only recently started doing meditation. Have you tried/listened to the binereal beats that are included?
Cassandra, it is a journey, my dear, and you are VERY young and have so much to explore and discover.
I haven’t yet listened to the binaural sounds yet. I just found it on my iPhone so I may give it a try soon! If you can meditate with your two little boys, I have no excuse not to meditate! You so inspire me, Cassandra.
Farnoosh,
I absolutely agree that I have SO MUCH to discover (about myself & life) and I absolutely can’t wait to learn it all. The binereal beats are really interesting…it’s amazing how they are meant to help bring the frequency of your mind back into where it needs to be.
HI Farnoosh,
Just wanted to say a big THANK YOU for putting it out there that we need to listen to our intuition… listening to our gut and heart rather than our heads is where it is at! And for mentioning the power of meditation – you get a big hug! It’s such a wonderful practice for everyone on the planet.
Thanks for shining a light Farnoosh!!
Robin
Dear Robin, You Are Welcome! And you love meditation too. It’s a sweet way to go inward, to really and truly come in touch with what we need. Our heads don’t mean to lay us astray, I am sure of it, but the heart is the real steering wheel, that’s for sure.
I am so glad to see you here, Robin, thank you!
Dear Farnoosh & everyone -
I am absolutely reading the comments and loving finding so many wonderful new people who are in tune with their intuition.
Nothing makes me happier than to know that I am able to spread my message about this great gift we all have inside of us.
In the past I ignored my intuition and that is what led me to make so many poor decisions in my life. Once I began to trust and rely upon my own inner wisdom my life improved immeasurably.
We have all the answers within – listen, trust and take action upon them and you will find yourself walking the path toward your greatest desires.
xoxo,
Angela
Angela, thank you – it is a great gift, if we only remember to use it every day and every chance we get. THANK YOU for sharing your wisdom with us here.
Hey there! This is my first comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and tell you I really enjoy reading your articles. Can you recommend any other blogs/websites/forums that go over the same topics? Thank you!
Thank you Ollie. You can check out Angela’s work and the blogs that I like to from here, plus the commenters blogs from up above. Welcome!
