What If?

WhatIf Flowers London Market

Have you ever wondered what would happen if your limitations and imperfections, your worries and anxieties, or your doubts and fears, neither mattered nor materialized as you so desperately persist that they do?

Just what if …

What if none of your negative thoughts ever became valid concerns?

What if none of your doubts and fears stood a chance against your determination and perseverance?

What if all you ever hoped for and dreamt about was right before your eyes?

What if these stories you tell yourself about not being good enough are simply not true enough?

What if all you envied in others were a complete misfit for your life?

What if what you thought made you happy really didn’t?

What if what you craved in your most private moments was possible to achieve?

What if you are more than qualified enough to do anything on which you set your mind?

What if you and you alone are the only one that keeps getting in your way?

What if you are stronger than you think?

What if that body of yours is more flexible, more beautiful, more amazing than you dare imagine?

What if you set new boundaries instead of deciding in advance where to place your limits?

What if that crazy idea isn’t so crazy? What if that beautiful dream isn’t so out of reach?

Wouldn’t it be a shame to realize that you wrote your chances off because you told yourself that you were too old or that it was too late or that you didn’t have enough money, time or resources?

Wouldn’t it be a bitter regret someday if you filled the air with excuses instead of boundless hope and optimism?

Wouldn’t it be a sad thing if you closed the door to opportunities right before your whole world was about to change?

Think about it. Play with it. Maybe even go out on a limb and believe.

Choose to believe in yourself. Choose to bet on yourself. Choose better thoughts. Choose you against all odds.

You know what, What if’s was is one of the most powerful process in using the law of attraction. In fact, Abraham Hicks have created a process regarding ‘imagining what if’ in their book “Ask and It is Given”

It is also good to answer the what if’s because that’s what you will be attracting! What if I get healthy right now? What if I pass the exam like easily? What is I find a soul mate in tonight’s party? What if what if what if?

Hi dear Jaky, so happy this resonated with you – I am not terribly familiar with Law of Attraction but I do like what I hear so far. I love the positive What If questioning though – and good luck with all of your exams! May you do very well. Thanks for your comment!

What if, indeed. Thank you, Farnoosh. I appreciate these questions. Somehow, it feels as though you were poking me through the fiber optic wires….

In reality what ifs does not exist. All dreams are possible. It is only when we think about how to get what we want that things become difficult and complicated.

We were made to receive freely like new born babies without a care for the world, knowing that all our every need will be provided for. To that end must return if we are truly to live out our full potentials in life.

What if we just have faith and let go, instead of thinking and worrying about all the troubles and missed opportunities. I think life will be happier.

Hi again, dear Jimmy, well, what-if thinking exists but you are right in that all dreams are possible …. not all dreams happen of course. We as humans love to complicate stuff.
And I love it – have faith and let go – as long as we are letting go of the obsession and not of the hard work and effort it takes to get there….
I think we are saying the same thing :) ! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

What if…

Two words that make such a difference, both positively and negatively. When used in a coaching conversation it can shift energy in seconds. It’s one of my favourite tools, even say it to myself a lot! And when I do, those two words make me smile and remind me that…it’s all made up!

Dearest Sandi, deep down, somewhere, I was writing this post and knew it would finds its way to you …. and I should use it more in my coaching sessions – how brilliant – I generally have been using it with crazy conversations with the self ;) ! – who knew it could be useful? Thank you thank you for being here.

What if, indeed. Usually most of our fears are unfounded. But – if we persist in sending that energy out into the world repeatedly, it’s just the same as creating a negative thought form and that DOES increase the odds against us. The universe says,”Hey, guess that’s what that person wants, so let’s send it on over.”

Better to just send that negativity floating off on a thought bubble, tell ourselves to “cancel that” and replace it with our hopes and dreams and the action to see them to fruition.

Hi Julie, interesting and I have heard a lot of this related to the law of attraction. I have not yet experienced it from that angle. I think I just think that if we are negative, we do bring on more negativity, so in a way, we are saying the same thing. I love the new shift in thoughts you propose in the end and that’s what I was hoping to do with the questions… Thank you!

My way of cancelling the negative is to use the What If to move into the opposite direction, opposite emotion. If a client is what if’ing themselves into an unresourceful state, I actually ask them to stand up and turn in the opposite direction. Then I ask them to consider the opposite of their original what if. It may sound woowoo, but I ask them to then take steps in the direction they want to be heading, the emotion they want to be feeling and all the while their backs are turned to the negative. A powerful kinesthetic response! It has never failed to change someone’s state.

Hi dear Sandi, that’s the ultimate trick, darling! Moving in the right direction even in our imagination – or rather, in the mind first before in the real world, right? I absolutely love it. Like I said, I know you to be one powerful coach. What lucky clients you have!!! If I get a difficult one, I am sending’em your way ;) ! Thanks darling!

This one is the most provocative for me:

What if what you thought made you happy really didn’t?

It’s difficult to discriminate between happiness and desire sometimes. Difficult to know preemptively what will truly make us happy.

Phenomenal post, as always, Farnoosh!

Dearest Ruth,
Thank you so much for being such a loyal reader! I am so glad you mentioned “Desire” I think that’s the word I should have more clearly articulated on in this post …. thank you for stopping by and making my day! My new What-If for 2012 is What If I did yoga every day? :) !!

Farnoosh,

This is probably one of your most thought provoking posts I’ve read. These questions are really important yet we don’t ask ourselves nearly enough. I once said the way to feel like your life is incomplete is to be left with too many “what if’s” when it’s all said and done.

Srini, nice to see you as always! And I take the compliment and give you a kind bow and gratitude in return. Thank you. Funny how I wrote this in my mind on the way to cycling and just jotted it down when I came home in all of 20 minutes…. but it was coming from a place that was very deep and I know you relate to that well. I can’t wait to hear more updates on what is going on with you ….. hope Blogworld is a blast. Have fun!

Interesting post Farnoosh!

I think by thinking about all the ifs and buts in our lives, we miss out on the present moment- the now. I feel these are mainly our fears and things that we may think, which may not ever happen- yet we can’t help thinking about them!

Thanks for the reminder to let go and be yourself and live in the present :)

Hi Harleena, so good to see you here. Oh totally, the What If totally takes us out of the present time. No doubt about it. Thank you for sharing your beautiful thoughts!

This is beautiful and a very inspirational post!
We tend to spend so much time questioning ourselves and our abilities, and always try to protect ourselves by considering all the things that can go wrong and why we should NOT do this or that. But if we just allow ourselves dream some more and put aside our doubts, concerns and fears, we can become so much more powerful.

Thanks,

Yuval

What if all your “what ifs” came true Farnoosh! I wonder if that would made one happy. Well, perhaps the answer is not easy. Indeed I believe that a complicated dilemma would come up. However, I don’t want to sound pessimistic; your post has honestly cheered me up quite well! Thank you Farnoosh.

Hi dear Nick, I had to take the liberty of correcting the interesting spellings of my name on your comment – hope you don’t mind – and thank you so much for taking the time to comment.
And you are correct – in fact, one of my What If questions is – what if the things you thought would make you happy DIDN’T? It’s very true and you don’t sound pessimistic at all. I love having questions and even disagreements :) ! Thanks again and stay cheerful, Nick!

This is my first time here on your blog and this post and the “What If’s” you’ve asked have really resonated with me. Especially these first two…
- What if none of your negative thoughts ever became valid concerns?
- What if none of your doubts and fears stood a chance against your determination and perseverance?

Unfortunately, my many doubts, fears and negative “What If’s” in my relationship have caused many unhappy, sad days in my life over the last year. These “What If’s” are very helpful and something I will try to start using whenever a “weak moment” might take over my thoughts and cause negative emotions.
Thanks again! I look forward to reading more of your posts.
Lauren

Hi dear Lauren,
Welcome!!
Trust me, I have made so many mistakes because of all these doubts and fears, and have really damaged my own relationships in the process but learning happens and when it does, and when you are ready, you can take advantage of it and turn things around. Here’s to many good restarts for you, Lauren. Come back anytime and feel free to share this post with someone else who may find it useful. Thank you!

I have always lived my life thinking of the ‘what ifs’. My favourite, by a large margin is:
-what if the cure to cancer was trapped in the mind of someone who can’t afford an education.
I find this very self motivating.
