Blog Launch
Being a perfectionist with a goal in mind is like running infinitely after a moving target. The labor never ends and neither does the will to dream of more goals …..
In early 2008, I transitioned from Blogspot to my own website. I was tired of the limitations of Blogspot and wanted to create something entirely my own. A project that I anticipated would roll over smoothly in a matter of weeks with my usual determination about my goals did not make any progress for months. I refused to focus on it, yet I obsessively thought about it. What kept me from moving forward on a project I have craved and dreamt about for months and years now?
I read in The Zahir that often, we fear the true potential of our own abilities and possibility of real success - and so we procrastinate. It definitely rings true in this case for me. I used every procrastination under the sun, no matter how valid my excuses, and I did not come back to this project until nearly a year after purchasing my domain name. Since December of 2008, my blog has been a labor of love and sweat with a goal to create this tiny droplet in the expanding sea of universe that is the Internet, a droplet that I can claim entirely as my own creation, one that is constantly and indefinitely evolving and improving.
After moving old posts over via a simple transfer into WordPress, I heavily revised each posts, organized every post into categories, added post tags, and started to build out the new site with fresh content. Creating a new blog from old content posed some questions and for the benefit of my readers, here are the answers that I have followed:
When and how to expand beyond my Book Review category. While it is my favorite category, this blog will not be contained to just book reviews. See the About this Blog and About the Blogger to learn more about the theme of Prolific Living. I intend to publish extensively in all the existing categories in the coming weeks and months.
The right publishing strategy. Shall I re-publish all old posts at the same time? Shall I release them one at a time, even as they are dated to original posted dates? It is most sensible to me to contain the experience to the period in which it happened so I am keeping most original dates for posts. Starting April 1st, 2009, I have been publishing one post every day from the old yet revised posts. Setting a deadline for myself with commitment to follow through has motivated me to have all my posts finished on time. Also it is important to establish a habit to post often. While I will not post every day with the new blog, I like developing the discipline to write, review and prepare content for frequent publishing.
