Episode 79: You Are Not Alone in Your Quest – Community & Courage

by Farnoosh on February 15, 2013 · 5 comments . The Daily Interaction

Welcome to Episode #79 of The Daily Interaction Show. Our topic is to find community and courage when loneliness pulls you out of the world and makes it hard to keep going. You may be an entrepreneur, a single parent, just single, or simply feel lonely as you go through life. This podcast will help you deal with that!

WillaCather

Why is it that you feel like you are the only living soul on earth going through a hardship when you are in the thick of it? Why do we forget that not only do others go through similar if not often worse hardships, but that we can draw on each other’s strength precisely at these times?

The focus of drawing courage and support from community is not just for entrepreneurs, although we seem to be really good at drawing inward when we first go solo, but really this is a situation we all come face to face with in life. Hence the point of discussion for today!

Great list! I’d be tempted to add – ‘don’t be a victim-even if you feel badly done to’

What I mean by this is that wherever you are, you are the only one who is responsible for getting you out of it. I’m currently working with a colleague who’s been marginalized by her boss and has been removed from a project, effectively demoted and has no clear understanding as to why.

But instead of taking control by talking to her boss, getting some feedback, finding out where she can improve, she’s gone to the ‘what’s the use?’ place. This comes across as an attitude of indifference – not intentional but it’s not helping her case.
It’s hard to take control when we’re feeling badly done to, but by appearing to give up, she seems to be sealing her fate.

Hi Jo, oh my, add that on! I talk about that all the time, I just didn’t add it to this list, THANK YOU for that! Perfect, perfect story to illustrate your point too. How we react to a situation determines the REAL outcome of it, doesn’t it? Lovely to see a new face here, glad to have you as a reader/listener here, Jo.
