The Art of Persistence Show Notes:

1. First, you must believe in yourself, your abilities and your pursuits. This is the beginning of greatness, and it can make or break it. Believe in yourself. Period.

2. The most important and overlooked way you will achieve big things is that you are crystal clear on your WHY: Why do you do what you do? And I talk to you bout how you cannot go around borrowing or stealing other people’s why! You need to dig deep and find your why for doing things.

3. The role of inspiration in the art of persistence and how to find the right inspiration for you, and places where you can find inspiration: other people’s stories, music, biographies and more.

Sometimes, inspiration comes from sad stories – someone who has had a terrible situation happen to them and now needs help with accident claims, or someone who just suffered a great loss in their family or a someone who made the wrong gamble in their business. This goes a long way to remind you how lucky and blessed you are so be inspired, and persist on with your goals.

4. What to do with anger and frustration? I believe anger is a completely normal human reaction but what you do with it is going to make the difference between a loser and a winner. I talk about what to do with your pent-up anger on days when nothing goes right.

5. The way the support of the right people can help propel you forward on the hard days. Support does not need to come from friends and family and people do not need to understand everything you are doing in order to give you love and support. Look for support in places you may least expect it and be ready to give it back too.

Persistence is not attractive, it does not make you popular and it is hard work that makes you want to give up. You get close to giving up. You get close to walking away. You get frustrated and impatient. That’s why few people can really do it and fewer people still push through to the point of breakthrough. So encourage yourself if you want to see the sweet results of persistence, you too must push through to the point of that breakthrough.

Another great podcast, Farnoosh! This definitely ties into our interactions…if you don’t have persistence in the things you do, it will all fall apart – your relationships, your job/career, your passions, pretty much anything & everything you do…because no matter what part of your life it is, there will always be those down, difficult times and if you don’t have the drive and persistence to continue through those times nothing will come out of any of your pursuits.

I think all the suggestions you gave on staying persistent were spot on. :) Each them can bring tremendous help in achieving anything you want to do…understanding WHY you are doing what you’re doing, having a person or place to help inspire you, and having a way of releasing anger & frustration (in a healthy way) all have a place in staying driven.

I loved the podcast, Farnoosh! :) And a HUGE congratulations on the upcoming anniversary!!! :D I will definitely be a continued and loyal listener of it!

Hello lovely Cassandra, I trust fully that you will be participating in the contest starting next week, right?

It’s a true joy to me to see how much you are getting out of the podcasts. The difficult times come for all of us, you are right, what we do about them makes all the difference. You are a true role model of doing that well in your life, and during your own challenges. Thanks so much for the kind words, again!

Sweet Farnoosh,

Yes, I will definitely participate in the contest! It’d be an absolute pleasure to… :)

I’m sure that your podcasts are tremendously helpful to so many other people, too. Thank you so much for the sweet thoughts! That means a lot, especially coming from you. I definitely try as much as I can to stay driven, even through really hard points…and to look at them in a way so that I realize what I can learn from what’s going on. After all I’ve experienced (which I know is just the beginning :) ), I know there is always something to be learned from each and every experience – a “silver lining.” You’re definitely a role model & inspiration for me for staying persistent and driven!

Can’t wait to find out what the contest is going to be! :)

Hi Farnoosh.

You are doing it big. Most people stop daily interaction podcasts at maybe podcast 15 but you have pushed beyond more than triple that.

That is a great point you make about how you have to have some interest in what you are doing for when the hard times show up. Anyone can do something for someone else for a little bit, but when it gets hard, if you have no interest, you will start to get angry at the thing you are doing and the person you are doing it for.

There is probably someone out there that is doing the reverse of you, who was running their website and podcast series and who is now drained of energy due to it, and is excited to go work in a corporate structure. There are alternate and opposing paths across the lands.

Hi Armen, thank you. If you love it, you do it for free and for as long as you feel that love. It’s very true. I am glad to see you here. I am sure there are quitters out there as well as those who don’t give up at all to achieve their ultimate goal. :)

I have experienced that persistence to strive to achieve my goal, when I was younger and applying for a job, but haven’t had a chance, but due to my patience and perseverance I got the job and find it enjoyable.

Hi Mark, are you not feeling that way anymore about your work? It’s not the perseverance, maybe it’s the THING that you are striving for – maybe you are going for something that you don’t feel so passionately about – and in that case, it’s very challenging to feel the perseverance that I talked to you in this podcast. Just food for thought – thanks for your comment.

And its so much fun to hear my name mentioned by someone i respect and follow. as to my why when i started it was just to make money to help support my family. Hi Farnoosh,
I heard your podcast with Yaro who I follow and got really interested.
Today I have read a few of your articles and listened to this podcast and am really inspired.
This is spot on for me as I have been blogging for 5 months and sometimes I get really discouraged. I need to be persistent. I am taking a break for a little while to re-evaluate where I want to go with my blogging and business. I have considered starting a podcast around September.
I love what you are doing and you are a natural mentor.

Hi Joyce,
Oh thank you – Yaro was so gracious. Welcome here and I am delighted to have you. You are a newbie blogger – the beginnings are SO exciting. Don’t forget to enjoy them. You ARE persistent if you are here listening to this podcast and showing so much enthusiasm. I am very proud of you. Keep me posted, and best of luck and if you want to learn podcasting the right way, my friend Cliff thought me all I know about it – it’s an expensive course but it’s worth it and he is giving my listeners $100 off with code: PROLIFIC. Starts in a few days though: Podcasting A to Z. All the best!

Hi Farnoosh,

I only resently joined ProlificLiving and I want to thank you for the great work you are doing.

The 2nd point you make about knowing the WHY is so important. I know this because I’m trying to regain my passion and purpose in life and I’m stuck at the WHY – I just can’t seem to be able to answer it! How do I go about to find my WHY?

Kind regards,

Kobus

Kobus, glad to have you here. Great question – how do you know your WHY, your purpose. It’s actually an entire exercise I put my clients through. The easiest start is ask a series of questions, like why am I doing this? what about this makes me happy? why am I really really doing this? (I know it sounds silly but you keep answering until the answer you get to makes you feel something you haven’t felt before.) Let me know if this helps. Also search Google for Steve Pavlina and how to find your purpose – he wrote a great article years ago that still applies. Best of luck, Kobus!

Hi Farnoosh,

Thank you very much for your answer. Your answer is divine guidance. Let me explain.

I have been on this quest to find my purpose in life for some time now but the intensity drastically increased a couple of weeks ago.
I did a lot of searching on the Internet and also came across the article by Steve Pavlina. I still wanted to do the exercise he detailed for finding your life purpose but something kept me back.
I though about the article over the weekend but could not remember his name or the website. Your reply pointed me to the exact same article I was looking for ( life purpose). I did the exercise, and although my final answer did not have me in tears, I did get that sensation of ‘This is it!’. Reading my life purpose, I am reminded of the vague life purpose I had in my mind a couple of years back.
Now being formulated more formally, I describe my life purpose as ‘to be a source of pulsating positive energy, helping others achieve the success they were born into allowing them to resonate the positive energy further into the world.’.
The wording may still change but I believe the essence will remain.

Kobus,
Bravo for doing this exercise and following through – few people ever come this far. Now the question is how to put this beautiful purpose to practice. I know you will find a way, even if you take small tiny steps to get there…
