Episode 1 and Podcast Launch of The Daily Interaction

The Daily Interaction Podcast by Prolific Living Media

What does an intense desire to connect with your readers, a passion to share a message and a lot of heavy-duty audio equipment bring you?

It brings you Prolific Living Media, which is going to be the home for all things media here – videos, audio – and we are kicking it off by launching our first official podcast for you: The Daily Interaction.

What is Podcasting and Why Do It?

First, before the why, let me answer the what as in: What is podcasting?

Quite possible you may not have heard of it. Wikipedia has a term for Podcasting, and I quote this part:

Podcasting is a series of digital media files (either audio or video) that are released episodically and downloaded through a web syndication.”

I admit I did not know “episodically” was a word but apparently it is, thanks to podcasters!

Wanna podcast like a pro? Take Cliff’s Podcasting A-Z course on Sept12th? Listen to my testimonial on his page, & use the code PROLIFIC for $100 discount!

Podcasting is different from blogging, even though we are both creating content for others to consume. Podcasters do blog and bloggers do podcast so we do have overlaps. The reason I wanted to get into podcasting is to learn and use another medium, one that is much richer and arguably more powerful (if used well) than the written form. I feel this amazing connection when I listen to podcasts myself and I have to admit, long before I started blogging, I wanted to start podcasting. But it got pushed off, just as things often do in life, until now.

Podcasts are often free and generally reside in the iTunes store under the podcast category. There are thousands upon thousands of podcasts today in any subject under the sun and yet, there is room to grow and expand and find listening ears and podcasters find those listeners because when you have something to say and a deep desire to share it with passion, someone will listen and take value away.

It is the new form of radio except that anyone with a dream to do it can actually do it now! The barrier to entry is entirely up to you as the individual, one of the many reasons today’s technological advancements are one of the best expressions of our desire to express ourselves.

Now, after two months of heavy duty preparation, I am seeing this dream come to fruition. I am excited to be launching first of many podcasts, brought to you with love and purpose by Prolific Living Media. That would be the team of me, my husband, the producer and the main guy behind the scenes (except when he is in the scene! Hint: see the travel podcast section!), and my younger brother, the overall adviser to the whole operation.

How to Get Into Podcasting?

You really can get going with the bare minimum. Podcasting does not have to be expensive.

If you want to really invest some time and effort and money into doing podcasting right, I have one reference and that would be the podcasting expert, Cliff Ravenscraft. I came across Cliff on Twitter months ago and then met him in person in New York at Blogworld. We connected instantly.

I had already started listening to his Podcast AnswerMan show where he talks about the art and science of podcasting and it was not long before he got me all excited about podcasting once again and soon, my husband and I signed up for his 5-week course, which is almost over at the time of this writing. He has helped us tremendously in getting the podcast off the ground. His devotion to the students during the 5-week period is the core of what adds the value to this course.

What you don’t know can hurt you but with Cliff, you learn it and are much better off knowing it, trust me!

I must say that the investment in the equipment and the course were not small and even the financially conservative part of me believes 100% that the value is real and solid. So much so that I am now a proud affiliate for this same course which is coming up again in September.

If you are thinking, day-dreaming or dying to start podcasting, check out Cliff’s amazing 5-week Podcasting A-Z course and use the code: prolific anytime between now and September where he honors $99 off for the Prolific Living community!

What is The Daily Interaction?

The Daily Interaction Podcast, with me as your host, will cover all forms of social exchanges. Think of all the interactions you have with your world. What do you wish you knew to do better when among others? What do you wish others would do when interacting with you? What do you want to know and what do you want to get better at? So much to explore and learn and all the fun aside, it is going to make us better human beings when we can communicate well with the world around us.

So what are the best ways of saying it, writing it, typing it, speaking it and meaning it just as we intend it? This is what I will aspire to explore each week with you as I share stories and lessons of experience and devote a few minutes to our daily interactions.

How It’s All Gonna Work?

The podcast will be seamlessly integrated into the blog and the other blog posts will continue as normal.

The shows (or podcasts, you can call it either!) will be produced weekly and released every Friday. Our initial launch is today just to kick things off. Look for the second episode starting this Friday, August 6th.

I will have a blog post with the show notes and the podcast itself. You can listen it right here on the blog. You can also find us on iTunes. You can do a search to find us or you can go to iTunes under Advanced section and submit this RSS feed to immediately subscribe. Here’s the first one:

The Podcast and Show Notes for Episode 1

Are you ready yet? Take a listen:

In this introductory episode, I am delighted to be your host for the show where I cover the following:

  • I start with a quote that kicks off the show and the podcast and then tell you why I have created the Daily Interaction podcast.
  • I share where I come from (a country whose map is in the shape of a cat, can you guess?) and tell you my whole life story (just kidding!).
  • I share with you what the daily interaction is, and how, I believe, it is going to benefit you and enrich your life!
  • I mention having my listeners interact with the show by submitting questions, comments and requests.

For questions about The Daily Interaction podcast, please email me at tdi[at]prolificliving[dot]com

Over to you: Is podcasting new to you? Or are you an avid listener? Am I crazy to be crazy about podcasting already? And will you be joining us with the Daily Interaction podcast?

Congratulations! You sounded great, Farnoosh. I discovered your blog about a year ago when searching for green juice recipes and have found many of your other topics of interest as well; particularly those on public speaking and starting one’s own business. Look forward to Friday’s podcast!

Farnoosh, I thoroughly enjoyed your first podcast, where you explained why you left the day job to start your own thing to “do something meaningful” and “on your own terms” – absolutely brilliant! Also useful tip about the importance of “communicating” to avoid losing out on opportunities.
Thank you for sharing, its very inspiring. Alice ;-)

Hi dear Alice and welcome here. Thank you, I am so glad to hear it. Oh and so good to hear that you enjoyed my story. I debated how much to share on the first episode….. You are very welcome and thank you for being a listener. So kind of you to tell me all this!

OMG Farnoosh! You are so cute! :)
I actually have a podcast on iTunes, but have only uploaded a few random audio files (nothing regular). Your post has now made me think that maybe I should do this weekly, too.

Thanks for the inspiration!! You’re awesome and I really enjoyed listening to you.

Hugs,
Melody

Melody, thank you :) ! You have your OWN podcast? Come tell me what is it >I want to hear your voice and please, yes go back and put new episodes up. The podcasts that refresh over and over are the ones that thrive. So many are abandoned, it’s kinda sad. You are most welcome and tell me the name of your podcast pretty please!

I do plan on adding more soon, especially the audio tracks of the VLOGS I recently uploaded to my blog. I look forward to “hearing” more from you. :)

Melody – I *love* your voice and I am adding this to my iPod. I am listening now. I think I am going about mine in a more conversational tone and more informally – do you think both formats work? I just now posted Episode 2 and I look forward to listening to the rest of yours….

Melody, I have been listening to almost all of your podcasts and I LOVE them. I can’t tell you how much I am enjoying them. I love the intonation in your voice, your pauses, the content (that part I love immensely) and I really want to encourage you to please continue to podcast. Hope you see this reply and VLOGS sound very excited. Keep at it. Thanks for all the stuff you taught me through your podcasts…. I am almost done with all your archives! :)

Hi Farnoosh,

Thank you so much! I’m definitely going to be adding to the podcasts soon. To answer your earlier question, if both formats work: yes, I do. I love your “show” format. It’s like having you in my living room, chatting with me. It’s so personal and relaxed and yet you really make people think. Mine are more “educational”, I suppose. I think both definitely have their place, since I listen to both types of audios myself (I’m big on audios).

Huge hugs to you,
Melody

Great to know … and you are right because now that I think about it, Melody, I listen to many different styles too and I am really anxious to get some audio books too but it’s been just so busy with the blog and all my other work! :) Ok then, I am keeping my eyes open on more from you. Thanks for this fun conversation and getting to know you better.

I can identify now why you are so passionate.

Your touches of vulnerability and determination to overcome past “mistakes” (learning experiences, right?) make this particular podcast very compelling.

Also, I love that even *I* can understand the siblant consonants in your speech.

Great work, and congratulations!

Hello dear Jeanie, your words are ever so unique – “vulnerability and determination” – I had not heard that combination but it is yes all part of our learning experience in life. Thank you for listening and promise to call into the show later, ok? Thank you!

Hi Farnoosh, congratulations on launching your podcast! I launched my own podcast some times back with my friends and I know how difficult it can be. Our 1st episode was nowhere as near as polished as yours!

I’ve been lurking and following you on this blog and Twitter but hearing your voice on the podcast made me feel that I know you so much more so thought I would drop a comment to say hi and thanks for the awesome content you’ve been producing. Keep it up!

25 Farnoosh August 3, 2011 at 5:26 PM

Hello David and welcome here. Thank you so much. And you are also a podcaster! I am so looking forward to meeting more podcasters and joining their community too, it’s slightly different than blogging. Oh I worked so hard on this one, so I am glad the polished aspect comes forth but you know what, as long as we improve, I doubt it matters and people have a lot of room for forgiveness, as long as the sincerity is there. Thank you for taking the time to say hi and please share with me the name of your podcast if that’s ok with you?

Hey Farnoosh

Congrats on getting the Podcast done and delivered! It’s something that I’ve been ‘thinking’ of doing for a while – and still ‘thinking’ about it! (Along with video!).

Your example is a great reminder to actually get off my backside and do something!

Are you planning to put the podcast in iTunes?

Paul

Hello dear Paul, thanks so so much and please do do DO the podcast. What are you waiting for? I am sure you have assessed the situation from all fronts and all that remains are the demons of doubt and fear which stump all of us but should have no such power over us. Please think about getting the podcast off the ground. I am here to cheer you on. And yes, it’s on iTunes -I submitted Monday and couldn’t do earlier (I had to have a feed for the category in Feedburner and this blog post was the first….) so by Friday, I hope to be officially in iTunes! Thank you for the encouragement and here’s some for you :) !

My Sweet Farnoosh,
Your voice is velvety and your tone mesmerizing! The quality of your voice added with the professionalism of the production of this podcast makes for a killer combo. I loved it loved it loved it!
I could sit and listen to you tell me stories all night :)
I had recently purchased “Women, Food and God”by Geneen Roth as an audio recording online, read by the author herself. It by far the best way to grasp a complete book within 4 hours. You must do that too….I mean turn your publications into audio as well, read by you.
I am still thinking about how to do a podcast on wordpress.com, cause they dont allow for it unless you pay a handsome upgrade amount. Who knows listening to your podcasts i might get inspired and actually take the plunge :)
You get better and better dear one…I’m so happy and proud of your success and finesse.
Love you,
Z~
p.s. tell your hubby he did a fantastic job with the equipment and handling :)

Oh I was waiting to hear your feedback, Zeenat. THANK YOU!! Do you want to get on Skype and talk about this? I am happy to tell you how I set things up here and of course happy to share all of it with you – it’s the least I can do for your amazing support and friendship, and a great excuse to see you and hear your voice. Not sure who is charging you because Wordpress is FREE as you know, it’s an app built by community. We do pay for some plugins that are made by people around the world if they choose to charge for it and of course you pay for your hosting etc. Now, what I do recommend is to always have your own domain and I thought you did. As in, zeenat.com with no wordpress in it.
Great idea on the publications. I may take you up on it. That’s another brilliant idea that goes into my *idea locker* for later. Let me know how I can help you get going and I do mean it.
Lots of love and thanks for stopping by and giving me so much support.

Farnoosh, good on you! What a great job you did on your first podcast. I enjoyed listening to it. Didn’t know you studied engineering. My husband is an electrical engineer.

Love what you said about sharing failures. Couldn’t agree more!

P.S. The “Prolific Living Media” link in the second paragraph throws a 404.

Double E (Electrical Engineering), not one but two degrees (BS & MS) and top of my class. Couldn’t help that one and smart hubby you got!

Now I’m even more impressed. :) We love engineers around here.

My husband has a PhD in EE (summa cum laude or one of those Latin addendums — it’s been too long, heh heh). He was a professor for ten years before moving full time to his company. You are right, I married a genius. Good man. 26 years tomorrow. :)

Engineering is a tough degree and even though you might not be using the precise skills, I’m sure the academic rigor itself has served you in your new endeavors. You seem to be able to do anything and you communicate very well.

Alison, PhD? I don’t know what to say except that was my dad’s wish but after an MS and a thesis, I had to get out! I worked with post doctorates and extremely smart people but I never ever belonged in engineering. Thank you for reminding me though because my hubby and dad remind me of the same, that rigid training and analytical thinking has helped me a great deal in life. And happy early anniversary to you and your significant other. Thank you so much for all the encouragement and it’s wonderful to have you as a listener to the podcast in its baby stages :) !
