A Visual Journey on Why you should Embrace Travel in your Life

Tell a story without so many words for a change!

There is the newest challenge yet from my spouse. An exercise in brevity and a tall order to my devotion about writing my epic blog posts but variety is the spice of life and so I am up for the challenge. Thomas Jefferson once said: “The most valuable of all talents is that of never using two words when one will do.” Where words are scarce, I shall rely on the beauty of photography to tell my story.

Should we have a reason to travel? Why, do you have a reason to breathe, to live, to get up in the morning and face your days? You travel to be somewhere else and yet in that place, to find a sense of home and belonging, to explore the fabulous world we live in, to meet your other self, to step an inch closer to another culture and another people, to embrace Mother Nature in its stunning glory, to find out how you get on with your sweetheart, your life companion or most significant of all, just with yourself, to grow, to be fulfilled for months and sometimes years later from memories that you create, to share your stories with others, to open doors that no fantasy or reverie can lavish upon you because this earth is better than any dream and filled with more promises than any heart can behold. So get up, pack your bags, do away with your excuses, put an end to the waiting, pick a destination, and TRAVEL.

True to my words, the rest is in the photos. I created for you a visual journey through some highlights from some of my travels. May you be tempted to travel!

I can’t help not noticing that a lot of the pictures are with people. So I imagine that the component of meeting new people and interacting with the significant ones already in your life is a big part of traveling for you. Which I can totally relate with: I travel for the people, the cultures and the lifestyles, rather than monuments or museums.

Hello dear Eduard, so nice to see you here – and I do LOVE people – can you tell? ;) ! Meeting new people is my forté, and one in which I really delight. I make friends with everyone who crosses our path and it’s a very thoughtful observation. Although having said that, I LOVE museums too. Thank you for your comment.

Thanks for sharing those pictures. The Hawaii picture especially jogged my memory… The mountains really struck me because I was not anticipating such color in Hawaii .

Rob, you are welcome. The colors in Hawaii are very rich. My husband had to help me balance out the photos as they were heavily leaning towards Hawaii at my first pass at the post! Thank you for being here!

How BEAUTIFULLY INSPIRING! Your photographs speak volumes and I love the journey I took while looking at them. It’s time for me to plan a trip now, you have literally moved me to …travelocity’s web site :)

Dear Aileen, I am happy to have inspired – otherwise I take photos in vain! Go plan that trip and call me if you need help. Expedia, Travelocity, TripAdvisor, Lonely Plantet or travel blogs make for a great place to soak up on inspiration. Thank you for being here!

Your thoughts and these photographs were all a pleasure to see, thank you! For some reason, I love the monochrome pictures best.

So happy you enjoyed these, dearest Rebekah, and I shall have more monochrome in the future if only for you!

Wow, thank you so much for sharing your travels with us. I love your New Zealand, Florence and Australia the best. Because I want to travel to all 3! @ things stop me: 1) I keep traveling to visit my children and grandchildren 2) I can’t get over the idea of being on a plane for so long. I’m stuck in that thought!

I’m wondering if you can write a post on how myself and others can make the flight more comfortable. I’ve been to Hawaii and that’s one reason I’d never go back even though I agree it is paradise.

Hi Tess, I love every single one of those spots and yet I do understand the restrictions although it seems yours are rather fun. I am sure you love being with your grandchildren. There are ways to overcome #2 though if you wish ;) ! My hubby used to have sweaty wet cold palms every time we flew – now you should look at him – he’s even been known to dose off for a few minutes!
And how amazing that you request that particular post because that same husband (yes, one and only) has offered to write it for me. So it is coming!!! Hawaii is a must – paradise on earth! Thanks for your suggestion and comment!

There is something wonderfully velvety and alluring about your words. It gives me the urge to step on a plane and visit somewhere wonderful right now. Your photos are lovely too!

Such luscious photos! Tempting indeed. I’m fortunate to live in paradise, so there’s no need for me to travel at the moment.

Reasons not to travel…I recently red on Treehugger that 75% of our oil consumption goes to transporting ourselves and our products. In order to transition off oil dependence in the coming decades, they recommend significantly reducing one’s oil consumption by driving and flying less.

I consider this an important consideration myself. …Because if there’s no world left, there won’t be any place to travel! All the reasons you list for travel are indeed compelling, but perhaps we can find alternate ways to obtain the same benefits for the time being.

Hi Sandra, so happy you enjoyed the photos and you never told us where you call your paradise but it’s wonderful to have permanent residence set up there. I truly respect your decision not to travel. It’s wonderful to live in a world where we can make our own choices and have our own beliefs on how to serve the planet in the best way. Thank you for sharing.

How I enjoyed this post! I have not done any world traveling – just visited 48 of our States here plus Canada. I burned out on traveling during that time because I was rarely at home. Your pictures have rekindled my former passions, however!

Hello Jean, did you see how I didn’t say much here? How was the brevity?
48 states – ok you are ahead of me but not by much!!! Burned on traveling? Maybe a nice break and a shift of perspective is just what you need – the world is there to be seen and movies or travel stories from others simply don’t do it justice so if you decide to travel, I wish you much adventure and renewed enthusiasm for it!

Those mountains are delicious Farnoosh a wonderful share thank you. Travel is wise and good. For any person to open their inner outlook and horizons it helps to first experience others to see how other they live, work, survive and blend with all that is around them. It is life with books, people without reputation and the world natural and real before you. I always thought that your openess expands as far as you have been and seen. The world awaits.

Hi John, the mountains of Haleakala in Hawaii are beautiful – although my husband was arguing that it is the volcano. And I may steal that great phrase from you “your openness expands as far as you have been and seen…” – Thank you for sharing your thoughts and your words with us!

Hi Farnoosh. I went straight back to your Amsterdam post, because I wanted to see my home country through your eyes. Cool post and I liked your observations about order and cleanliness.
Travel for me is paying attention to how people live in a strange environments. Looking and observing gives me a chance to rattle my stuckness loose and makes me realize there are many ways to live on this planet and mine is only one of them. That makes me more flexible and see more possibilities.;
THAT makes travel unique for me and it adds great value to my way of being.
It was great to see your travel photos, way to go. I also loooove the new food I am eating on my travel. xox Wilma

Dear Wilma, how happy it makes me that you enjoy both the travel posts – I so enjoy writing them too. Rattle things loose, I like that. And yes, oh so many ways to live that no one way is right or wrong, normal or abnormal, I so agree. It’s wonderful to learn about the unique way you appreciate travel, so happy you enjoyed the photos and thank you for your comment and your lovely thoughts here.

How blessed are we to have the resources to see & experience the world through our own senses? We live once in this body… why not take full advantage of the vehicle right? Thanks for sharing your world travels through pictures!

Cristina,
So blessed, so lucky and so grateful. Indeed! We live once and we are young once which makes it easier to travel but nothing is going to stop me even in my 90s! So happy you enjoyed this post, thanks for sharing your thoughts!
