I admit I fell out of my green juicing habit.
Falling out of good habits is inevitable in life. Staying flawlessly on track with an unattainable goal is stuff for the athletes and superstars. I have fallen out of my health habits countless times. I have never given myself a break for it either and in hindsight, what a waste of energy. All that matters is what we do next. We stop, we regress, we back paddle in life all the time. Big deal. We simply need to get back into the rhythm. We simply have to start over, again and again and yet again. It is the perseverance mindset that comes to the rescue.
With that mindset, I found my way back into juicing recently. As usual, I am shocked how I let such a brilliant habit slip into the background of my life. One taste from my home made green juice the other day and my body felt instantly rejuvenated. It is no wonder my first Favorite Green Juicing Recipes has been the most popular post! To kick-starting the juicing habit again with a huge dose of inspiration, I made a video of my green juicing process and tips for us.
About the Video: We made the video completely unrehearsed and impromptu; I only had so many vegetables for juicing and I really wanted to make a video sharing my indelible love of green juices in order to tempt you into this habit which can bring enormous benefits to your health and your life if you only let it!
If you are going to be juicing, you need a reliable, top notch juicer, and it will be your BEST investment. I highly recommend the Green Star Elite juicer by Tribest.
Two recipes used on the video:
For a list of recipes, see Favorite Green Juicing Recipes. I use my Omega Juicer in the video. As I mentioned, the portions vary and you have to experiment to find your own ideal combination. I provided rough portions below on what was used in the video:
First Recipe for a Simple Green Juice: ~ 3-4 medium carrots, 1 medium Beet, 1/2 yellow delicious Apple.
Second Recipe for an Advanced Green Juice: ~1-2 medium carrots, 1 medium beet, 1/2 yellow delicious Apple, 1 lemon, ginger, 1 cup parsley, 1 cup cilantro, 2 medium cucumbers, 2-3 beet leaves, 1/2 cup carrot top leaves, 1 cup baby spinach, 1/2 cup fresh dill.

Really nice! I also like such things!
Seems to be interesting! Thanks for sharing, especially recipes.
Roman, you are most welcome. It is too good not to share!
1: The video looks already nice to me, so I’d say continue this way
2: I never had a vegetable juice, and I know that’s bad. I have to fix it
Oscar, more videos forthcoming. I promise.
And remember the juice bars in big cities. They usually make a custom juice too! Enjoy.
How fabulous!! I just pulled my juicer out again this week — sometimes I think it’s seasonal to fall out of the juicing habit. Great minds think alike!! I hadn’t tried beets, but I will try it tomorrow morning.
btw, you are darling and it made me so happy to hear your voice and see you in action!
xoxo.
Nona, you are very sweet. I am so glad to get closer to my readers with video. And you are going to LOVE beets. They are delicious and add such taste to any vegetable juice. Please let me know how you like them and happy juicing!
Hi Farnoosh.
This is juiceariffic. A long time ago I would juice apples and oranges and all kinds of fruits. It sure was good. Now I only have this useless blender that sort of smokes up after being used for 30 seconds, and only partially blends at the bottom, so it is not useful for juiceage, or basically anything except creating a burned smell. “Want to make your room smell burned? Look no further than this cheap blender~.” I will keep the thought of getting a quality juicer again in mind.
As far as improvements for the video, maybe you could have done a question-and-answer session with the audience. As far as any real suggestions, I can’t think of any. The video was well-made. Also, who would juice a cucumber“ I’m pretty sure those are reserved for salads or sometimes sandwiches. I make winning salads by the way(lettuce, spinach, tomato, avocado, corn, peas, onion or green onion & cucumber).
The difference in nutritional intake between someone who juices these types of items versus someone who regularly eats most of the garbage food provided at stores and fast-food places is immense.
Armen, the blender story is hilarious and yes I am laughing – Do you know how many blenders I have destroyed. I finally bought the “near industrial kind” Breville blender and since then, it has been the winner of the battle. I am going to do another video on GREEN smoothies, yum!
Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll use it for sure…..and the difference between those with a healthy diet and those without one is too much for words. We must be responsible for what foods we consume! Thanks for the laughs (and the salad recipe!)
Farnoosh,
I forgot to mention this earlier but your speaking is really clear and understandable. This is a great quality. I wanted to add in that point.
Also, I made a couple of berry smoothies with frozen strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries, and they were way too sweet and rich. Also, I would make chocolate shakes long ago and they were so good(chocolate ice cream, milk, ice).
Armen, thank you for the feedback, really nice of you to say so – I can still improve in parts that I noticed but at least, I have learned a little from Toastmasters
! By the way, I am going to do a video on Green Smoothies!! And you might be interested because by adding just one vegetable to the fruit smoothie, you can cut down the sugar and sweetness by quite a bit and add more vitamins. I love the smoothies you mention but way too much fructose. And no milk shakes for me…. !!!
I hate V8. If i were to follow nutritionist, i will end up becoming a vegetable. It will take me a complete day to finish 8 servings of vegetable and 5 servings of fruits. Thanks to my Indian diet, i don’t really have to care about nutrition.
Donnie
PS: After your English grammar post i am a little scared to write comment. It would be embarrassing to write a grammatically wrong comment. lol.
Donnie, you cannot hate V8 as much as I do. I can’t stand that disgusting “vegetable” drink. All the more reason to get your vegetable juices, which taste as much like V8 as American food tastes like Indian food, this way rather than a bottled way!!
!
And please do not be scared….I am so happy you decided to comment. I may need to write a post dispelling the notion of any fear my last post may have caused
ps: Love Indian food too!
Great job, Farnoosh!
The video is very tempting! I always had some reluctance about juicing, because I have read that drinking juices (vs. having the actual vegetables/fruits) can make our livers work overtime, but I believe the key factor (in almost everything in life) is balance and not over-doing it.
I really enjoyed the video! You first and only take was super!
Thank you Sahar….I was hoping to tempt you – I have *never* heard of what you said about our liver and I read tons of books and articles about juicing (and extensive juicing that is, including fasting which I also did – see the 5 day juice fast and kundalini challenge). Balance is key yes, and I am so happy you enjoyed the video. Perhaps a small glass at the next Juice bar that you pass?
Oh, sure! I never say no to a small glass of fresh juice!
By the way, I just realized I forgot to spell check my comment! I hope I didn’t make any grammer or spelling errors!!
(I totally agree with Donnie’s PS)
Your comment was fine and as long as I raised awareness about our own use of English, I am happy but fear – come on, no worries and keep commenting!
And yes, I am also looking forward to some recipes with blender. I have a great “almost industrial” blender and I can as well share some great simple recipes for cold soups and slurpy summer drinks.
Ok you are on. I’ll do one on Green Smoothies next and dedicate it to you already!
It will be my pleasure!
I need to kick caffeine and pick up something a bit more healthy …
Indeed – although tea is not so bad if you drink the right kind of tea (loose leaf Oolong, for instance, yum + benefits)!
Alright. Hi Farnoosh! It’s time we get introduced as I see you EVERYWHERE on the internet.
I’m Parker, nice to meet you
I really liked your video, me and my girlfriend tried out your Carrot, Beet and Apple Recipe just now and it was Deelish! Looking forward to seeing more of you..
–Parker
Hello Parker, nice to meet you. Am I really everywhere?
I am thrilled to see that you tried the super delicious drink! Validation that vegetable juice made fresh is indeed delicious….come back and I shall have more for us in this space here. Thanks for your comment!
ha ha yes, you are farnoosh! I first met glen, who introduced me to diggy, dragos, steve, and everyone else… everytime I go to their page, I see you.
If there is ever a post where I don’t see your comment, it wouldn’t feel right to me
Hey Farnoosh!!
Wow, I loved the video!! So great to hear your voice! Oh…and see the creation of these amazing drinks! I haven’t juiced vegetables before – so this is most certainly new to me. We do make fruit smoothies, although they are certainly a different setup completely. Anyway, really great stuff – and … I am tempted to try it!!
Lance, you gotta be kidding me!? You look to me like the super health nut!! You must make vegetable juices. It is too good to pass up!!
I fall out of habits all the time. I find the trick is to make it easy to get back on and to link it to good feelings.
I think it’s actually good to fall out of some habits … it’s a natural part of “out with the old, in with the new” and I think periodically sweeping and reviewing your habits in your life, is a great way to tune and prune your precious path.
J.D., good interpretation – I think maybe it is a natural part and then getting back into them will make things more exciting. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Hey there Farnoosh,
I’m just a few seconds away from receiving my mother-in-laws juicer so very anxious to discover and eager to learn. I just wanted to look at your video, but it gets stuck after about 1 and half a minute… do you have any idea what could be the prob? I’m sure it will be a great inspiration, reading the above posts…
Thanks for sharing!
Sima-from-Holland
Sima, so nice to see you here. Ok the video is rather long and depending on your internet connection, it may take a while to pre-load. Can you try to let it load for a few minutes and then start it?
As an alternative, you can go to the direct link on viddler too:
http://www.viddler.com/explore/prolificliving/videos/13/
Do let me know if it shows up for you! And good luck with the new juicer and your juicing journey !
Hi Farnoosh,
I am a health food nut myself and am going to dust off my juicer. You could easily have your own cooking (juicing) show on the Food Network. My latest discovery is Krill oil — tons of great benefits.
Blessings,
rob
Hey Rob, I am not sure what Akismet was thinking putting your comment in Spam but I gave it a good talking
! Sorry about that….Ah so exciting that you’ll be back into juicing. And thanks for the tip.
Farnoosh: I thought the video was great. Thanks for sharing it. I also really thought what you said about not blowing your inability to perfectly stay on the right paths we have discovered was important. So often we feel that we have to do things perfectly and that if we slip up that means we have really fallen off track. However, the reality is exactly as you stated…we take some steps forward, we make progress and sometimes we take some steps sideways. What matters is that we are committed to the journey and that we are willing to live and learn along the way. Thanks for the great post and the sharing the video.
Hi Sibyl, welcome to prolific living and thank you for sharing your thoughts – especially on the concept of falling off track. Gosh I used to take it so hard on myself and really, as you say, we just need to stay committed to the overall journey. Why is that so hard to get into our heads?
I am so very glad you enjoyed the video. There shall be more…..hope to see you here again!
I really like what you say about being gentle with yourself when you fall off from a good habit!
Juicing makes me very sick. Many greens are high in oxalates, which can cause pain, inflammation, and digestive distress not to mention calcium oxalate kidney stones in people who are susceptible to absorbing excess oxalate. As the saying goes, “one woman’s medicine, is another’s poison!” I did juice in the past and always wonder why I never felt so well when I did. Now I know why!!!!
Thanks for your beautiful blog.
Hi Sandra, welcome here and thank you so much for sharing your experience. You know, I have not heard all the reasons but I know that some people are extremely sensitive to juices – esp. the green juices – and I am glad I mentioned that people take it very easy and slowly when they start out and of course listen to their bodies. Thanks again for the words of warning and I am sure our readers appreciate it as much as me….
By the way, I read in Green for Life that green smoothies have worked better for those who don’t react well to green juices – and one of my next video posts will be about green smoothies. Have you tried those?
You are so kind and understanding! I haven’t tried green smoothies. I will look forward to your explanation. The greens I eat include bok choy, broccoli, and cabbage (has a little green
.
Nice video, looking forward to see more video post (:
Nimit, there shall be more videos
!
This was so helpful to watch! Thank you for sharing!
xx Sharmila
Ah smiles! That makes me very happy….!!! Quite welcome.
I’m so glad I found your site. My body was really craving some fresh veggies so i went in my fridge and made some juice from parsley, watermelon, cucumber, kale, ginger, celery, and even a bit of zucchini. It came out better than expected, but I decided to search the web for some experienced juicers. Thank you for the inspiration and informative video!
Dear Dominique, that is a combination I have never tried but just earlier today I juiced an entire watermelon – all by itself….Yum! You are most welcome, and thank YOU for the new recipe!!!! Heal those cravings
!
Firstly, i have not juiced any vegetable so far, i don’t know if my juicer will be able to do it, let me make a try and will update you. if it does not works out, will try to get your omega juicer thing, it looks good.
This is an excellent video, am surprised to read that it is unrehearsed. Will be looking foreword to see more videos from you.
Hello thank you for your comment. Yes totally unrehearsed. I must do more videos. I enjoyed it so much and your feedback means a lot. Start slow if you haven’t juiced. Carrots, apples, cucumbers are the easiest to juice and digest…..carrots might be a bit hard but cut them smaller and the juicer – if indeed it’s a masticating juicer – will handle them fine. My Omega still going strong 3+ years later. They even replaced a part I broke for completely free!! Love those guys!
I was wondering what your thoughts are on making one gallon of green juice at at time and then freezing each serving in a ziplock baggie. I have been doing this because I work fulltime and the only time I have to juice is on the weekends. I also add protein powder and yogurt and blueberries to my green drink and have a smoothie every morning! Like you said, you actually start to crave this green drink every day. I just love it. Thanks for your input.
Hello dear Ramona and welcome to prolific living. Excellent question – I totally understand the work that goes into making these juices. So here’s what I have done: Because the longer you keep the juice, the less refreshing and there is claims that the nutritious enzymes are gone if the juice is not consumed right away. I have made up to 2 or 3 gallons and kept it in the fridge before, not freezer and consumed it in about 2-3 days max. I do not keep it longer. Now I have never ever mixed anything into my green juices – I do not personally recommend mixing diary products. I love smoothies too but drink my juices pure without anything added. Of course if you enjoy it, go for it! thanks for your input and hope to see you here again!
Awesome article. I agree 100% with what your saying. I have been devoted to personal development and health my entire life and its great to find a new resource for information. I will be back to visit often. If you want you can read my site devoted to the same topic and leave a comment on my blog. -Daniel
Hi there, thanks so much for your note here, Daniel and please forgive the late reply. It is wonderful to hear others also embrace healthy living. All the best to you.
I’m new to juicing, your video has been helpful, thank you
Thank you – enjoy the journey!
