Eric Schiffmann‘s book continues to tap into a curiosity that I cannot seem to quench. I still remember taking his class in the only yoga conference I attended in 2003 in New York City when I was too new to yoga to appreciate fully what he was teaching – and yet, he made a permanent impression with me. So I return to his book, and work hard to build a daily practice of yoga.

The last few weeks have been trying with the strange arm pain that responds to no remedy for any length of time, a constant bitter reminder of how I should bow with gratitude to the universe that has now robbed me of complete health, in hopes of it being restored very soon! The same universe must be sending me a not-so-subtle message, because the only thing that makes my whole body including my arm feel restored, happy, healthy and well is yoga. Our bodies are fragile garments, as a friend noted the other day over tea. This fragile garment has to stand the course of whiplash, the abuse, the stress, the merciless demands and unrealistic expectations I set for it and still not waver once. Perhaps my body has a point!
The purpose of the yoga series videos is to inspire myself and my readers to establish a devotion to our home practice, and to find meaning and lessons in each practice, be it 5 minutes or an hour. In each yoga video series, I will share an aspect of yoga practice, and search and surely find lessons that each session teaches me in the silence and stillness.

- Being at peace with posting this video: Not for shyness or feeling less than confident in this Asana series, far from ideal that it may be, it is me in the poses. I liked it. No, I mean, the overall quality of the video after all the editing! Oh my, I nearly discarded it altogether. It continues to be a challenge to find the best angle, the bright lighting, and the perfect editing stream to match what I was feeling and to inspire you, my readers. I decided to share the video as is, and to improve the living daylights out of it for Series #3, so stay tuned!
- Listening to the inner voice: Eric Schiffmann talks about the inner voice at length, and it sounds beautiful – not to mention how powerful Schiffmann conveys his message in words. In reality, though, I was surprised to hear an inner voice prompt me to take a break mid-afternoon on a Monday, and feel the pouring rain and dark clouds outside inspire me to do a standing series. I heard my inner voice as clear as that, and the inspiration gave way to action, and here we are. Listening to the inner voice, I will make this an integral part of my days and my practice.
- Learning by watching yourself on video: Watching yourself on video is very humbling! No matter what you are doing, it is you and only you who can spot places to improve and up the ante to higher levels of achievement. During the standing series, I can see clearly that I need to ground my support leg even more so. This can come with getting deeper into the zone, and meditating on the flow of movements and flow of my breath to compliment them.
