This is our first contest on the blog and I am very excited about it. A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog post about my appreciation and love of Picnik and today I am very excited that the fabulous Picnik team, who provide this service photo editing website online, have offered 3 generous prizes for this contest. Please read the contest rules and guidelines and participate in the fun!
What is the objective of this contest?
Well, I can explain it best by showing you. In my first Picnik post, I talk about the fun and unique features of Picnik, and how creative yet simple it makes it for us to edit our photos. In this contest, I want to encourage you to submit your most improved, creative, enhanced photo using Picnik, and Picnik only!!!! (No need to submit the before photo, just the finished photo will suffice)
To kick start things off, while I am obviously not participating in the contest, I will share with you a before and after photo, improved entirely using Picnik. While the free version of Picnik is more than generous, there are some amazing fun features in the paid area, and that is what makes this contest so enticing!
Here is my Before:
And After fun editing with Picnik:
Participation: Open to everyone. You must provide a valid email address and abide by photo rules below.
Rules about the photo: I have 2 rules and I trust that you will exercise good ethics to observe them:
Rule 1. Do not submit offensive or otherwise risqué photos . I would like to continue sharing this site with my mother and someday perhaps with my children! Seriously, use common sense and we will get along just fine.
Rule 2. I am a fanatic about respecting Copyright Laws for photos. If it is not your work – that means if you did not take the photo - then do not submit the photo. Please know that the prizes can be reversed, and your membership will expire immediately with Picnik if that is the case.
How to submit photos: This is entirely up to you as long as you post a comment below so you count as a contestant. I would prefer if you could submit the photo embedded in html with the comments. If your photo is already on Flickr, super easy: Just go to All Sizes on your photo, pick Medium size, and Copy&Paste the HTML code in the comments below. Otherwise, just enter a comment specifying link to your photo’s location, and we will go check it out! If still no good, just email me the photo after your comment. Keep photo size to no larger than 500 x 375 to fit the width of post column and preferably no larger than 1Mb.
Contest Start and End time: The contest will start as of publication of this post, on Thursday, October 1st, and run for 10 days, to close on Saturday, October 10th.
Judging: The judging of our 3 winners will be determined by a panel of 3. Prolific Living is the first judge. A dear friend of mine who is an avid videographer and entrepreneur, Naomi Takeuchi is second judge. Another dear friend of mine and a magnificent professional photographer, Pascal Monmoine (See both Site 1 and Site 2 for Pascal) is our third judge.
Winning Criteria: We will select the top 3 most creative and commendable edited photos using Picnik. We will use our eyes and our heart to pick out the photos that best speak to Picnik’s editing features and your spark of creativity!
Announce Winners: We will announce winners no later than 3 days after closing of contest, by Tuesday, October 13th. Announcements will be made as an update to this post and also on all the Flickr forums for Picnik and my Twitter updates.
Prize: Each of our top 3 winners will receive gift cards for 6-months of Picnik’s fabulous membership (valued at $19.95). Needless to say, after the 6-months, you can simply go back to using free Picnik or renew your membership. Sweet and Simple!
That’s about it! Bring out your best, we can’t wait to see it. Good luck and have heaps of fun playing!

I put the small version because the med version is 500 x 418 too big still. I used Picnik to make this while it was still a beta program.

A really cool idea Farnoosh, so thanks for giving us the chance to enter.
Now this pic I am submitted was actually a bit of a mess, because I’d taken a whole batch of pics that day with exposure compensation accidentally set to -2EV, so with the aid of Picnik I was at least able to make most of the pics I took presentable.

title=”Surfers at Sunset by on Flickr”
title=”Riley by nswe2002, on Flickr”
Question..if someone already has an account, can this contest count for when their account expires? Thanks
Hi Noel,
First: Important–>Please make the photo PUBLIC so the judges can see it. Second: Yes, I believe Picnik will just extend your membership so it won’t expire for another 6 months!
Ok Thank you!
This is one of my favorites. Hope you like it too.
